Last month I ran out of my Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturiser. I didn’t have time to buy a new one so I did a quick Google search, can you use primer as a moisturizer?, reached into my makeup bag, and grabbed my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer.
In the beginning I thought the primer was working really well as a moisturiser. I noticed that my skin was looking very matte which I loved, as my skin is very oily. I hated how much I liked using the primer, as it costs $32, which is ridiculously expensive for a primer.
However, I noticed that I started to break out about a week after I started using it. Initially, I didn’t think the primer was to blame. I changed what I was eating, drowned my insides with water, but nothing changed; my face was still full of whiteheads. After a process of elimination, I realised that my breakouts were as a result of using my primer as a moisturiser.
I stopped using my primer as a moisturiser and my face cleared up within a few days. I am still not entirely sure why it made me break out. Perhaps I was using it too often. Some primers are known to clog pores, so that could be a reason. While I love Fenty products, I would not recommend using the Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer as a moisturiser every day.
